As a business owner, you want to help people, but I suspect you also want to make money. Maybe a lot of money.
And that is not bad. Making sales is not bad. The better you are at making sales, the more people will become your customers, and the more people that will be helped by you. It is a win-win.
I often run into people in business for themselves that feel like selling is ‘bad’ or ‘manipulative’.
Let me ask you, Is what you’re selling something that can help people?
If your answer is no, then yes, maybe selling to them is manipulative and bad.
But I’m guessing that your answer was a solid YES. Because most people don’t start a business doing something they hate. They have passion for what they do. Because they BELIEVE.
If you have a product or service that helps people, lets them have a better life, be happier, or in some other way is good, then you OWE it to your prospective customers to sell to them.
Think about it: if there was some product and service you really needed (or wanted) to improve your life, and the person who had that product or service wouldn’t sell it to you, wouldn’t you be MAD?
If you won’t sell to those who need you and your business, then you are doing them a disservice. You are actually HURTING them.
Because they need you. They need what you can do.
They just don’t know it yet.
So you have to let them know about you, and how you can help.
You do this through
- Valuable information (this is called ‘content’) via your blog, social media and newsletter
- Giving talks and teleseminars that give people information they can act upon
- Asking people in your website, social media , blog and newsletter what they’d like to know
This isn’t rocket science. And it isn’t bad, evil, manipulative, or anything like that. It’s just marketing and sales. Helping bring your products and services to the people who need and want them.
